Good classroom edition

I like teaching this novel, but I don't have time to teach the full text. This abridgement does a good job of capturing the fullness of the story and the characters in about 40% of the pages. I like the historical timelines at the beginning and the Notes sections at the end. My students find the novel easy to manage, too.

ABRIDGED - falsely labeled

I am very disappointed that the copy is advertised as "complete and unabridged" - right on the cover! This is definitely NOT complete or unabridged. Les Miserables is a fantastic book, but I would not recommend this publication by "Enriched Classics". Nor will I buy any from this publishing company again. I believe they should label their books honestly and correctly. If you want to read an unabridged version, do not buy this book.

Trashy, Inept, and Deceptive Treatment of a Classic

Nowhere in this edition does it say whether the book is abridged or unabridged. Nowhere does it say who the translator is. Wouldn't these be basic facts a customer is entitled to know?

Rather ironic omissions for an "enriched" edition allegedly full of supplementary helpful information.

Even worse, I strongly suspect (from another version of this 'enriched' edition on Amazon) that the translator is Charles Wilbour, a man who seems to always pop up as the translator of many French novels, but a man who should never be allowed near the French language:

As someone who knows French, I counted on just the first half page -eight- different unclear - or just plain wrong - translations. Some of them render a French word into a little known,stilted, or archaic English word.

That's when I said "Ah! This has to be Wilbour" . . . And I tossed the book with great force at the radiator.

There is one thing I do not agree with, and that is the dogmatic concept of "tithing" since this idea has been very much abused by organised religion. I do not believe that giving should be prescribed in percentages and here I concur with other great metaphysicians like Dr Joseph Murphy that exact percentages are less important than the spirit of giving. Perhaps the best chapter in this book is the explanation of "divine restoration" which, if practiced, will help more people than all the anti-depressant medication in the world. I salute Catherine Ponder as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century, and may her work continue to help and inspire as many people as possible to experience abundance and fulfilment in their lives."

Great book!

You know that saying about " don't judge a book by its cover". Well, that goes for this book too. When I received the book it was shipped to me quickly and it just looked like a simple library book. BUT, when I began to read it, I was very impressed. So impressed that I decided to actually read it like a text book and I began to take notes. It helped me to examine my thoughts and intentions regarding prosperity and not just monetary prosperity. Yes, I would recommend this book, even in spite of many bible references. So, if that is an issue for you....here's my warning, lol. I have recommended it to several friends.

This is the most enlightening book on how to prosper I have ever read. The basic idea is that you are not trying to make God give you anything. You are only opening your mind to receive the abundance God has promised you from the beginning. Another intriguing aspect of this book is that the techniques can be used equally well to prosper others. Picturing a loved one's good, or affirming it through the spoken wsord, can have tremendous effects. Ponder teaches that there are 3 steps to prosperity: (a). Once you get definite about what you want, and write it down, the universe or God can be definite about what you want; (b). Create a picture of your goal as clearly as possible and look and enjoy it everyday. These images will be absorbed by your subconscious mind and begin to shape your reality; (c). Use prosperity affirmations often. Statements broadcast into the universe attract a certain reality, and in time are expressed as fact. Finally be prepare that flowers bloom when they are ready, and not before.

I've found that saying affirmations, writing them down and doing the work definitely helps to get what you want. God wants us to live a prosperous life and reading this book affirms it. The author, Cathy Ponder, explains that we must be specific as to what we desire, as long as it is in the realm of God's principles. My favorite quote in the book is, "I cannot lose my good. I have not lost my good, though I may have outgrown certain phases of it. My good has simply changed form." That quote gives reassurance to the ones who may have thought they had lost what God had for their lives. This is a book of love and hope.

About the Author

William E. Huxhold is Chairman and Associate Professor in the Department of Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. From 1975 to 1990 he was Management Information System project manager for the city of Milwaukee, where he implemented one of the first urban geographic systems in North America. He received a M.S. in Engineering Management from the University of Dayton in 1973. Mr. Huxhold also wrote An Introduction to Urban Geographic Systems, published by Oxford University Press in 1973. Allan G. Levinsohn is an information technology consultant with more than 15 years of experience managing geographic information. He is an Associate of the Banff Centre for Management, and an advisor to government agencies and companies across Canada. He has also worked in Kenya, China, Japan, Holland, and the U.S. His clients include regional and national government agencies, municpalities, and resource, utility, engineering, and technology companies. Mr. Levinsohn is well-known for his innovative approaches to GIS planning and design.

Though disparate in subject matter and style, with characters ranging from a sushi chef to a soldier and settings from a taxicab to a live television broadcast, these highly original plays share a commitment to formal experimentation that places them beyond the psychological clichés of the majority and the cold condescension of postmodernism. About the Author
Mac Wellman's recent work includes The Difficulty of Crossing a Field (with composer David Lang) at Montclair State University in the fall of 2006, and 1965 UU, for performer Paul Lazar, directed by Stephen Mellor at the Chocolate Factory in the fall of 2008. He is also working on two plays for chorus: The Invention of Tragedy (Classic Stage Company) and Nine Days Falling (commissioned by the Stuck Pigs Company of Melbourne, Australia). He has received numerous honors, including both NEA and Guggenheim Fellowships. In 2003 he received his third Obie, for Lifetime Achievement. In 2006 his third novel, Q'S Q, was published by Green Integer, and in 2008, a volume of stories entitled A CHRONICLE OF THE MADNESS OF SMALL WORLDS was published by Trip Street Press, as well as a new collection of plays, The Difficulty of Crossing a Field, by Minnesota Press. His recent books of poetry are MINIATURE (2002), STRANGE ELEGIES (2006) and SPLIT THE STICK: A MINIATURIST-DIVAN (2012), all from Roof Books. His play LEFT GLOVE was published by Solid Objects in 2011. He is the Donald I. Fine Professor of Playwriting at Brooklyn College.

Young Jean Lee is the founder of the Young Jean Lee's Theater Company where she directs her own work. She has been invited to tour venues in Vienna, Hanover, Berlin, Switzerland, Brussels, Norway, France, Rotterdam, Portland, Seattle, Columbus, Pittsburgh and Minneapolis. She is the recipient of a 2007 Emerging Playwright OBIE Award.
