About the Author
Stephen P. Robbins received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. He previously worked for the shell Oil Company and Reynolds Metals Company and has taughtat the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Concordia University in Montreal, the University of Baltimore, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and San Diego State University. Dr. Robbins; research interests have focused on conflict, power and politics in organizations, behavioral decision making, and the development of effective interpersonal skills. His articles on these and other topics have appeared in such journals as Business Horizons, California Management Review, Business and Economic Perspectives, International Management, Management Review, Canadian Personnel and Industrial relations, and Journal of Management Education.

Dr. Robbins is a best-selling textbook author in the areas of management and organizational behavior. His books have sold in excess of three million copies and are currently used by students in more than a thousand U.S. colleges and universities, and have been translated into16 languages.

Dr. Robbins also actively participates in masters' track competition. Since turning 50 in 1993, he has set numerous indoor and outdoor age-group world sprint records. Clear concepts, interesting examples

Got this as a textbook for a business class. I found it actually helpful in my real-life job. The concepts are explained clearly, and I didn't lose interest as easily as I do for most business books. I'm keeping this one for reference later.

The book presents penetrating discussions of both the Concrete and the Brick Country House projects, two of the famous Five Projects of the 1920s which made Mies' early reputation; and, among others, the Lange and Esters Houses of 1927-1930; the Barcelona Pavilion and Tugendhat House of 1928-1930; and, in America, plans for a house in Wyoming for the Stanley Resors, and the Farnsworth House of 1946-1951. The analysis and the illustrations demonstrate a continuous development toward realization of the goal Mies himself described: "To bring Nature, houses and people into a higher unity."

The original German language edition accompanied an exhibition organized by the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum, Krefeld, in conjunction with the Mies van der Rohe Archive of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, on the occasion of the public opening of the restored Lange and Esters Houses, now owned by the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum. All of the works exhibited are reproduced in this volume. Dr. Tegethoff's text, based on extensive research in the Mies Archive and other sources, brings to light much new information on the origins of Mies's ideas, his working methods and relationships with clients, as well as the actual planning and structure of the houses.

Wolf Tegethoff is a member of the faculty of the Kunsthistorische Institut of the University of Kiel, Germany.

Dostoevski is always great. When they first translated him, it is said that they edited him down to the story line, cutting out of his philosophical ideas. In Bros Karamazov, he said he was going to put in all his ideas, even if it ruined the story. His ideas, his view of reality is what makes the story, and makes it great.

Its not a book about sex and violence. The murder of Karamazov is about the failure of moral feeling in a man who has been overcome by his own philosophical maze. The 'violence' is the physical expression of something much worse, a man who is loosing his soul in the 'modern' world.

Zamalek was the focal point of social change, and its elite role models actively engaged in the creation of these new social norms.

By following the lives of one family, this book describes how these people lived, interacted, and changed, often under the impetus of international events, and looks at some of the beliefs and traditions upon which their life was based. As Egypt enters the twenty-first century with a noticeable reappearance of the veil and an apparent return to the values of the past, this account by someone who grew up within that group is a timely examination of the social westernization of twentieth-century Egypt, the forces that led to it, and the events that made it possible.

About the Author

CHAFIKA HAMAMSY grew up in Zamalek, and received her M.A. in English literature from the American University in Cairo. For many years she headed the Catalogue Department of the American University in Cairo Library, where she now works as a consultant.

Egypt the Great as it was in the good old days !

The author, a rather arrogant women, describes Egypt during an interesting period of history. If you don't mind the occasional slights to Christianity you will understand the mentality of a different and lost world. The beauty of nostalgia is that we only remember the good and forget the evil. Coming form an elite Egyptian family myself I can see her point of view. During the period mentioned the Suez Canal (1869) was finished and Egypt interacted more than ever with world. Oddly enough it was during this period the the Muslim Brotherhood ,1928 I think, arose in Egypt. I too will soon put pen to paper. I hope to publish it by 2016.

I was very disappointed that there were so few pictures

I was very disappointed that there were so few pictures. I lived there for sixteen years and would have loved to see some of the old places in the fifties and sixties. I have both Grand Hotels of Egypt and On the Nile, and they are magnificent. I also,wish that the print was darker as I had difficulty reading it. Same with the other two books. I nad a gorgeous apartment on the Nile and spent many happy years watching the feluccas and the fishermen who used to pull up to the banks ar night with their families.

The two rare volumes of 'Das Bauen im Neuem Reich' (Building in the New Reich) were showpiece books at the time. Each volume contained more than 200 pictures of the most important public and private buildings, including bridges and autobahns. Any construction considered at the time as an achievement was listed. Hitler saw himself as the artist of the nation and as its architect. He often said that if he had not gone into politics he would have become an architect. He liked to show off his architectural knowledge, often drawing details of buildings, facades and pillars. His favourite architects were Paul Ludwig Troost, Albert Speer and Fritz Todt. Troost was commissioned in from 1931 to 1934 to build the first iconic buildings of National Socialism. His buildings included the two Temples of Honour, the Leadership Building and the House of German Art - all located in Munich. Speer designed most buildings of the Party Rally grounds in Nuremberg and the New Chancellery in Berlin. Todt, an early party member and engineer, masterminded the autobahns. The reprint of this rare book will be welcomed by scholars of the period as an indispensable primary source offering a valuable perspective on the formation and development of Nazi architecture and ideology.

"Hitler's Buildings" is a 1938 reprint by World Propaganda Classics of a book entitled Das Bauen im Neuen Reich - Erster Band. Translated: The Buildings of the New Reich, First Volume. The reproduction is complete and untranslated, with the exception of a short contemporary introduction by the publisher of intent and purpose of the series. The text and imagery is black and white on rough paper stock. The photography is first rate, almost studio quality, however in this reprint all appear grainy and much detail is lost. Despite the above detractions, the book will be of interest to the domestic, architectural and military historians of the vast building program of Hitler's Third Reich prior to the start of the Second World War.

About the Author
Adam Blai is a modern religious demonologist who trains priests in exorcism at the national level. He is a peritus of the Roman Catholic Church in exorcism and religious demonology as well as an auxiliary member of the International Association of Exorcists. He has a Masters in adult clinical psychology and has worked in forensic and community clinical settings. He has performed hundreds of psychological evaluations and worked with the full range of mental illnesses.

A practical guide for the Catholic

A short and useful guide to the Catholic approach to the elements of the title. The author's goal is not to attract the reader with hair raising stories, but rather to provide practical advise on what to do and what not to do. In several situations, he leaves things out on purpose - essentially indicating a need to know restriction. My only criticism is that the text can be repetitive, but as a "manual" trying to convey critical points, probably this too is not a bad way to have written it. A take home message for the ordinary "curious" Catholic is here - allowing the reader to not overly fear such things, yet giving practical advice on how to avoid common mistakes in dealing with the dark ones among us.

An excellent introduction to Religious Demonology.

I thought that this was an excellent book. Adam Blai certainly seems to know his subject well. So many books on exorcism are all about sensationalism and cheap scares, this book isn't like that at all. Blai gives a very sober, professional and thorough run through of the basics of haunting, infestation, oppression and possession. He seems to be genuinely concerned about educating the public while at the same time keeping the public safe - he actually leaves out some of the more salacious details to that end.

This is one of the few books I've read that deals with the topic of human hauntings as well as demonic infestations. The book details in a clear and easy to understand way just how to tell human activity from demonic activity. Advice is given as to how demons enter into people's lives, how they remain there and how they may be removed. I wouldn't say however that this is a "handbook" on exorcism rather it is a basic primer on religious demonology that educates and warns the public on how to identify demonic activity and how help may be provided once identification is made.

Part one of the book discusses haunting, infestation, oppression and possession. Part two of the book contains prayers that could be used in cases of haunting, infestation and oppression. Possession and exorcism however need to be left to the experts and so little information is given into the actual process of a Major Exorcism. The book is very faithful to the teachings and laws of the Church and it is clear that Blai is operating entirely within the framework that the Catholic Church provides. As a Catholic myself I found this reassuring.

I found that the Kindle version had quite a few spelling and grammatical errors but in my experience that is not so unusual for Kindle versions. It didn't detract from my reading. All in all I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in religious demonology. It should be a text at seminary.

Hurray for Approach Guides!

OK -- these Approach Guides are just great! What a novel idea: a relatively short, well-written, easy-to-read travel companion which is useful whether you're actually going to a place, have come back from there, or are the proverbial arm-chair traveler. Each guide is right-on-point and sufficiently detailed, addressing a unique aspect of the art and architecture of a country or region, with plenty of photogrpahs, highlighted diagrams, maps and clear language. And all for a really reasonable price. I've purchased several Approach Guides -- for my Kindle, as pdf's, and to use on my iPad. I took three of the India Approach Guides with me on a recent trip there and they made for a perfect source of quick reference information while visting caves, temples and monuments. I've purchased a few other guides for places I'm considering visiting (Indonesia). And I've purchased a few for places I traveled to a long time ago in order to refresh my memory (Myanmar). I even got a thank you note from one of the authors after my first purchase! Good work, Approach Guides. You've come up with a brilliant and unique product.

Essential guide for these UNESCO World Heritage sites!

In 1983, the Ajanta and Ellora caves were the first sites in India selected as UNESCO World Heritage sites along with the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Ajanta has 26 Buddhist caves built in 2 waves: 2nd Century BC and 4th Century AD. Ellora has 34 caves built later that are Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain. This guide selects the best 9 from Ajanta and the best 8 from Ellora for wonderfully clear, succinct commentary with highlighted diagrams, closeup photographs, and author's tips to get the most from your visit. I visited in March 2015, spending 4 hours at Ajanta and 5.5 hours at Ellora. This guide was truly invaluable to helping me locate and appreciate the highlights of these beautiful and inspiring spiritual places. I have used the Approach Guides for Bagan; Angkor Wat; Morocco; Khajuraho; and Delhi, Agra, and the Taj Mahal, which I have reviewed on their Amazon product pages with great praise. Bravo!

We really like this Approach Guide, we visited Ajanta, Ellora early this year. The guide is not too long not too short. It has just enough information for us to explore the sites by ourselves. It's just right for what we need, looking forward to use Approach Guide again for other destinations
